Video: Tesla Model Y finally in Malaysia, full EV from RM199k – 5 Things



Tesla is now here in Malaysia, and piloting its entry into the country’s market is the Tesla Model Y. Offered in three variants, namely the RWD, Dual Motor AWD, and Performance Dual Motor AWD. Prices for the Model Y start at RM199,000.

The prices for the Model Y have been announced since July 14, 2023, and it has now made its physical debut in Kuala Lumpur. The Model Y isn’t exactly a new design, but we’re finally welcoming it to our shores. It is an SUV that is based on the Tesla Model 3. Want to know more about it? As standard, the Tesla Model Y comes with LED headlights, LED taillights, keyless entry with access card and smartphone entry, 19-inch Gemini wheels, and a pearl white exterior colour. Yes, The Tesla Model Y is only available in one exterior colour with the base RM199,000 price. All other colour options will incur additional costs. Also optional on the exterior of the Tesla Model Y are a set of 20-inch “Induction” wheels.

As for the EV numbers, the Model Y has a range of 455 km for the base RWD variant, 533 km for the long range dual motor variant, and 514 km for the performance dual motor AWD variant. The base variant gets a 57.5 kWh battery capacity while the other two get a 75-kWh capacity. The base variant can handle a maximum DC charging rate of 170 kW while the rest can do 250 kW.

Performance figures aren’t listed in full on the Tesla website, but what Tesla does share is the 0-100 km/h acceleration times and top speeds of the Model Y. The century sprint is done in 6.9 seconds, 5.0 seconds, and 3.7 seconds for the RWD, Long Range and Performance Long Range variants. Top speed is rated at 217km/h for the RWD and Long Range and 250 km/h for the performance model.

As for safety, all variants of the Model Y come with the basic Autopilot advanced driver assistance suite, which includes autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane centring assist. Enhanced Autopilot will cost an additional RM16,000 while Full Self-Driving (FSD) will cost an additional RM32,000.
