Smart #1 undergoes 20,000km test ahead of Malaysia launch



It is no secret that the Smart #1 will soon be launched in Malaysia. Ahead of its public debut set to happen very soon, Smart Malaysia has revealed that the Smart #1 has undergone some serious testing (20,000 km of it) to ensure that it is fit for the Malaysian market. After its first public appearance set to happen soon, the Smart #1 is set to be officially launched in Malaysia in Q4 2023.

Also ahead of its first public appearance, the Smart #1 has been previewed privately to member of the media and potential customers. The private gave participants the opportunity to experience the Smart #1 which included a test drive on a closed circuit. Participants not only learned the full details of the Smart #1, but also shared their feedback on the electric car.

Smart Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Zhang Qiang said, “By bringing people together, especially the EV enthusiasts, and sharing knowledge, we hope to increase awareness and enable participants to explore our product firsthand by providing an opportunity to get up close and personal with smart #1.’’

Smart Malaysia has yet to confirm the variants to be offered for the Malaysian market. Globally, the Smart #1 is available in its Pro+, Premium, Pulse, and Brabus variants. The former two are rear-wheel drive (RWD) and the latter two are all-wheel drive (AWD) models.

Smart Malaysia has also revealed that the Smart #1 is undergoing extensive testing ahead of its public appearance and launch. This includes a 20,000 km adaptive test to evaluate the vehicle’s performance, reliability, and safety in real-world conditions with a particular focus on adapting to the weather and road conditions in Malaysia. Even the head unit of the Smart #1 is being rigorously tested with multiple test cases.

Zhang Qiang adds, “In addition, we conducted local integration and display head function tests, which included 12,000 test cases and conditions. And on the service side, we have successfully developed our after-sales network and online system. Over the past 6 months, we have extensively tested the service functions to ensure a smooth experience for end users.”
