Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said, “Mangroves are a vital part of Malaysia’s ecosystem as it helps to protect riverbanks from environmental risks, particularly from flooding and tsunami. Apart from that, mangrove trees protect water quality by removing nutrients and pollutants from stormwater runoff before they reach seagrass habitats and coral reefs. It also provides nursery habitat for many commercial fish and shellfish, thus contributing to the local abundance of seafood.”

“Given the huge benefits of mangrove trees, Perodua has decided to tie up with the Malaysian Nature Society for the tree planting activity as part of our CSR activity”, said the CEO. He also added that as Perodua embarked on its Sustainable Development Goals journey, having such programme is important to reflect the company’s commitment towards achieving its goal.”

“The tree planting event is also related to one of the SDG goals, namely the goal number 15, Life on Land. Its objective is to stop biodiversity loss, stop land degradation, stop desertification, protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and manage forests sustainably. Therefore, the tree planting activity organised by Perodua can help spread more awareness to conserve the earth,” he said.
