Honda continues with its commitment to advancing safety for everyone sharing the road and has introduced its new Honda Driver Coaching smartphone app. Designed to help improve new drivers’ skills and promote safe driving practices, the app is available in the U.S. only and is free to download via the Apple App Store only.
Described by the company as a perfect complement to formal driver education, the Honda Driver Coaching app provides exclusive access to many new and prior model year Honda and Acura models equipped with head units that support Apple CarPlay. The app is able to deliver detailed, real-time driving data and analysis, together with a clever game component to ensure the lessons are fun and engaging.
To use the Honda Driver Coaching app, users simply need to get the app installed in their iPhone and have their iPhone connected to the vehicle’s Apple CarPlay-supported head unit. The app will then analyse driver inputs, which include steering, braking, and acceleration in real-time. The app will also instruct the driver when they need assistance.
When the driving lesson is complete, the driver will be presented with a calculated arriving score, allowing them to track their progress. In addition, the app will also present a summary of their drive, along with specific driving tips. When not driving, users can also gain access to an extensive library of driver training videos via the app using their smartphones, which can help sharpen their driving skills.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Safety Strategy Leader, MJ Foxley said, “We created the Honda Driver Coaching app to take meaningful action to address a critical issue – that nearly one-third of U.S. traffic fatalities involve drivers under 25 years of age. With schools getting out and summer driving season just around the corner, we hope our new Honda Driver Coaching app can positively influence young drivers and the safety of everyone sharing the road.”
