Isuzu Malaysia sold 9,211 D-Max pick-ups in 2022, nearly double of previous year

Isuzu Malaysia ended 2022 with a record-breaking sales performance for the Isuzu D-Max, delivering 9,211 units of the pick-up trucks across the year. That figure set a new record for the brand with an all-time high, eclipsing the previous record of 6,480 from 2016. But more incredibly, it was also just a few tens shy of doubling the total sales from 2021.

The company says that the performance was spurred by huge interest in the 1.9-litre variants, making up 79% of its total portfolio last year. Among those, 55% of them were sold in Peninsular Malaysia. The flagship X-Terrain variant also made inroads into the “premium lifestyle” pick-up truck segment, with 877 units delivered last year.

“Despite facing stock limitations from the factory, the third-generation Isuzu D-Max achieved extraordinary heights in terms of market penetration,” said Isuzu Malaysia CEO, Shunsuke Okazoe. “Thanks to its exceptional design and future-looking features, the latest generation Isuzu D-Max brings new levels of driving comfort and performance without losing any inherent Isuzu family traits. It is a true representation of a modern day pick-up truck.”

“Our focus for this year will be to ensure that our customer experience remains positive as we aim to reduce the delivery times and to enhance our network. I wish to thank all our customers for their support and patience and also our partners who have helped us rise to the top despite the challenges faced in the supply of vehicles,” added Chief Operating Officer, Kenkichi Sogo.

The Isuzu D-Max was most recently updated last year with new creature comfort features for the range-topping X-Terrain 3.0 variant, including a 360-degree surround view monitor, as well as a wireless charging pad inside. Underneath the bonnet is a 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, which delivers 190 hp and 450 Nm to all four wheels via the 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The 1.9-litre model meanwhile last saw the addition of a new Auto Plus 2WD variant in 2019, which, as the name suggests, only comes with front-wheel drive. The 1.9-litre turbodiesel inline-four engine makes 150 hp and 350 Nm, and is paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
