During today’s media event for the launch of the updated 3 Series line-up, BMW Group Malaysia’s managing director and CEO, Hans de Visser, announced that the company has sold a total of 14,466 vehicles in 2022, consisting of 13,088 cars and 1,378 motorbikes.

The figure represents a 35% increase over the previous year, and helped the company maintain the title as the sales leader in the premium segment in Malaysia for three consecutive years.

From the 14,466 figure, BMW contributed a total of 11,855 units sold in 2022, a 38% year-on-year jump compared to the previous year. The best-selling model from the marque’s line-up still remains the 3 Series, moving over 2,300 units across the year, with the base 320i Sport variant contributing over 34.5% of those.

The BMW 2 Series, specifically the 218i Gran Coupe, also enjoyed a successful year in 2022 with over 1,300 units delivered. As for the SUVs, the BMW X3 is by far the most popular model, with over 1,300 units delivered. Overall, the BMW X family line-up saw a total of over 5,100 SUVs sold in 2022.

The BMW brand alone has already occupied over 45% of the segment share within the premium car segment, says de Visser.

MINI meanwhile saw a total of over 1,300 units sold in 2022, a record figure for the brand, representing a year-on-year growth upward of 25%. The MINI Countryman was the biggest contributor, with over 800 units delivered, accounting for over 65% of total sales.

Electrified MINI models also saw an impressive growth here in Malaysia in 2022, where over 24% of MINI models delivered were electrified – an 83% improvement over the previous year. This includes the fully-electric MINI Cooper SE, which was also given a mild update yesterday.
