For the first time ever, the BMW Malaysia is now offering a plug-in hybrid variant for the BMW X3 lineup – the new facelift 2022 BMW X3 xDrive30e M Sport PHEV. The new variant is locally assembled and is priced at RM356,800. That’s around RM2,000 less than the X3 xDrive30i M Sport, at RM358,800.
BMW Malaysia also launched the facelift X3 sDrive20i M Sport at RM315,800, X3 xDrive30i M Sport at RM358,800 and the new BMW X4 xDrive30i M Sport at RM398,800. All prices are inclusive of SST.
PERFORMANCE
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 184 hp and 300 Nm, paired to an electric motor with 109 PS. The combo delivers power to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic. The top speed in full electric mode is 135 km/h.

By comparison, the petrol-powered X3 xDrive30i only makes 252 hp and 350 Nm and is a tad slower from 0 to 100 km/h at 6.3 seconds. Fuel consumption figures of the xDrive30e, like the Volvo S60 T8 PHEV R-Design we reviewed, should be taken with a handful of salt, not just a pinch. It’s rated as low as 2L/100km.

EXTERIOR
As you’d expect the X3 xDrive30e comes with full LED lighting front and back along with new head and taillights designs. Also expected is a larger kidney grille although the headlamps are now 10mm slimmer than before.

INTERIOR
Inside, the changes are just as significant with new air-con vents, a new air-con control panel, and a new gear lever console from the newer BMW 3 Series and 4 Series. The steering has also been redesigned. There are two upholstery choices for the cabin – Black Vernasca leather or Mokka Vernasca leather.
