5-door Suzuki Jimny to debut on 13 January, with brand’s concept EV

The words “tiny”, “capable”, and “tough”, perfectly describe the Suzuki Jimny, which is a 4×4 ladder frame SUV that is no longer than a Proton Saga. Some length enhancement is due for the little SUV, as Indian publication GaadiWaadi.com reports that the 5-door Suzuki Jimny will make its debut on January 13, 2023, at the 2023 Auto Expo in India.

According to the publication, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) recently confirmed that it will showcase 16 models at the Auto Expo. Major highlights by the brand during the expo include the 5-door Suzuki Jimny, the Baleno-based Coupe SUV, an electric SUV concept, and the Wagon R flex fuel prototype.

Just last week, photos of the 5-door Suzuki Jimny in India surfaced on the internet with the car sporting no camouflage at all. Indian automotive media report that it was possibly being filmed for a commercial at that time.

In the leaked images, the 5-door Suzuki Jimny was seen with a longer wheelbase, a body-coloured roof, and an additional pair of rear windows to accommodate the longer cabin. The rear doors seem a little short, but it may be due to an illusion created by the plastic claddings that sit at the door edges.

No major styling changes are seen on the 5-door Jimny, and the car is seen in its popular ‘Kinetic Yellow’ body colour. It is reported that the 5-door Suzuki Jimny will be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that makes 102 hp (metric) and 130 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual box and a 4-speed automatic box.

In Malaysia, the 3-door Suzuki Jimny fetches a price of RM174,900 with SST included. It is fully imported from Japan and is available in one variant only. The Malaysian-spec Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
