At long last, the tiny Suzuki Jimny is now available in Malaysia – with a big price tag at RM168,900. So what exactly is it about the Jimny that makes it the enthusiast’s darling worldwide for the last few years? Well, we made this video to tell you exactly that!
First of all, the looks. There’s no mistaking it for anything else – the squared-off silhouette, its tiny size, all of which truly makes the Suzuki Jimny stand out from the sea of beigemobiles (and SUVs). You’re not wrong if you think it’s just a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen squished down into the small footprint, but at the same time it’s also not just that – you’ll have to look at it yourself to truly appreciate it.
But looking good (cute?) isn’t the only thing it’s good at. Because the Suzuki Jimny, despite what its appearance might suggest, is actually a truly competent off-road machine.

It’s built on a ladder frame chassis, with three-link solid axles on both the front and back to give you impressive wheel articulation when travelling on tricky terrains. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a part-time 4×4 system, and since it’s a proper off-roader, there’s also a low-range transfer box for whenever you need it.
Speaking of power, underneath the bonnet is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s good for 100 hp and 130 Nm of torque. Here in Malaysia, the powertrain is paired exclusively to a four-speed automatic gearbox.
