Thai customers queue overnight for BYD Atto 3, over 2.5k units booked in a day



Set to debut in Malaysia before the end of 2022, the BYD Atto 3 has created a storm in Thailand, gaining 2,507 bookings in just one day. BYD customers reportedly lined up overnight before the bookings were open to secure a new BYD electric car for themselves.

Officially distributed by Rever Automotive in Thailand, 5,000 units of the Atto 3 have been allocated until the end of the year for the land of smiles. With 2,507 bookings as reported by Headlight Magazine, more than half of that quota has been reserved by Thai customers.

In Thailand, the BYD Atto 3 Extended Range pilots the Atto3 range, fetching a price of 1,199,900 baht (approx. RM 150,692). The Extended Range version of the BYD Atto 3 gets a 60.48-kWh BYD blade battery pack that provides up to 420 km of range (WLTP).

There is also the BYD Atto 3 Standard Range which will be introduced on November 11, 2022, in Thailand with a 49.92-kWh battery pack that provides a 345-km WLTP range. The standard range is part of the 5,000-unit 2022 Thai allocation.

Propelling the Atto 3 is a permanent magnet synchronous motor that turns the front wheels. The electric motor makes 204 hp (metric) and 310 Nm and accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.

As for charging, the Thai-spec Atto 3 can handle 6.6-kW AC charging as standard. The Standard Range BYD Atto 3 can handle 70-kW DC fast charging while the Extended Range BYD Atto 3 can handle up to 80-kW DC fast charging. The BYD Atto 3 is also capable of vehicle-to-load (V2L) function at a rate of 2.2 kW.

In Malaysia, the BYD brand will be officially distributed by Sime Darby Motors. Earlier, it has been announced the Atto 3 will be launched in Malaysia this year. It will be joined by another EV by the brand, called the BYD E6 which is a fully-electric MPV.
