2023 Toyota bZ3 photos leaked – ‘EV Corolla’ to debut soon?

Leaked images of the all-electric 2023 Toyota bZ3 have surfaced on the internet. Similar in dimension to the Toyota Corolla, the bZ3 has not changed much from the Toyota bZ SDN concept that debuted in December 2021.

On China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)’s website, photos of the Toyota bZ3 show two left-hand-drive units (black and white). Unlike the bZ4x, the Toyota bZ3 features flush door handles, which make it more aerodynamic. It also features aero caps, shown in two different patterns in the leaked images.

CarNewsChina reports that the bZ3 will use BYD’s ‘Blade’ lithium iron phosphate batteries. Last year, Toyota and BYD joined forces to create BYD Toyota EV Technology. Together, they established a research and development centre in Shenzen. The ‘Blade’ batteries are said to be about half the thickness of a traditional lithium-ion battery, boosting passenger space. No information on the battery capacity is known yet.

A peek at the inside of the Toyota bZ3 reveals a rotary style gear selector, a floating screen infotainment unit, a flat-bottom and top steering wheel, and a tan leather interior. The position of the meter cluster requires the driver to look over the steering wheel, instead of through it.

The Toyota bZ3 is expected to make its official debut at the Guangzhou motorshow in November this year. It will be Toyota’s second EV in the bZ series after the Toyota bZ4x. As for Malaysia, registration of interest has been open for the all-electric Lexus RZ, which is Lexus’s version of the Toyota bZ4x.
