In the limelight at Chery’s booth at GIIAS 2022 are the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, both of which are now open for booking in Indonesia, and are set to launch later this year. While prices for both cars have yet to be announced, Chery has confirmed that they will both be offered with a headlining 10-year/1,000,000-km engine warranty and a six-year/150,000-km vehicle warranty.
Both the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro are among the models that Chery plans to launch in Malaysia soon. With our neighbouring country getting these cars first, it will be interesting to see how the Indonesians respond to the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro before any of us decide to buy one. Another Chery model that will be introduced in Malaysia is the Chery Omoda 5.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Chery models, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is the bigger SUV that can accommodate seven people. It is also the brand’s flagship model. The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is the more compact five-seater SUV, although both cars are built on the same T1X Comfort Chassis.
Chery Tiggo 8 Pro
Designed with Chery’s ‘Life in Motion 3.0’ philosophy, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is endowed with a geometric matrix diamond grille and LED headlamps. Occupants of the Tiggo 8 Pro are treated to a Sony surround sound system through eight speakers, multi-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic skylight, and a two-tone black and brown upholstery.

Powering the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is Chery’s third-generation ACTECO series 1.6 TGDI engine, which produces 197 hp and 290 Nm. The turbocharged mill is paired to a Chery-developed seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
As for Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) functions, the Tiggo 8 Pro has 12 functions. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW), plus a 360-degree camera to aid visibility.
Chery Tiggo 7 Pro
Targeted at the urban elite, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro adopts an edgier interpretation of the Tiggo 8 Pro’s styling. The familial geometric matrix diamond grille is flanked by intelligent matrix LED headlamps.
Under the hood of the Tiggo 7 Pro is either the same 1.6 TGDI engine as the Tiggo 8 Pro, or a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 156 hp and 230 Nm. The transmission in use is a CVT with 9 virtual gears. Chery says the CVT for the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is on par with Aisin’s six-speed automatic transmission.

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro features include a seven-inch LCD instrument panel, a 10.25-inch central control screen, 360° camera, inductive electric tailgate, wireless charging, electronic gearshift, and voice command.
As mentioned above, Chery plans to launch the Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo 8 Pro, and Omoda 5 in Malaysia soon. With that, Chery says it is continuing to work closely with local partners towards establishing assembly operations in Malaysia, as well as towards its brand renewal, which will see the development of a new nationwide sales and after-sales network to best serve Malaysians.
