Chery Tiggo 7 Pro confirmed for Malaysia launch – Proton X70 rival with up to 197 hp!

Having previously announced that the Tiggo 8 Pro and Omoda 5 are earmarked for our market, Chery has now confirmed that the Tiggo 7 Pro will also be launched here in Malaysia. The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, together with the seven-seater Tiggo 8 Pro, will enter the C-segment market here in Malaysia, challenging the Proton X70, Honda CR-V, and the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace (for the Tiggo 8) head-on.

Much like its (slightly) larger brother, the Tiggo 7 Pro also comes with Chery’s latest modern design language, dubbed “Movement Design”. The styling is characterised by its “galaxy-inspired geometric matrix diamond” grille, with three-dimensional diamond pins that has now become a hallmark feature for the marque’s “Pro” line-up.

Other exterior highlights include the slim adaptive LED headlights, T-shaped LED daytime-running lights and fog lights assembly on the bumper, full-width LED tail lights, floating roof, and wheel sizes ranging from 17- to 19-inches in diameter.

The modern exterior is also paired to a futuristic yet luxurious interior design – enough to fool you into believing it’s from a premium German brand if not for the emblem on the steering wheel! In the latest and more premium model dubbed the Tiggo 7 Plus (pictured) in China, it even comes with a twin 12.3-inch display set-up – almost reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz MBUX system!

We’re not sure if we will eventually get the Plus’ interior set-up here in Malaysia, but either way, the Tiggo 7 Pro will still be fairly well equipped for its class, with standard features in its home market including power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control with an ioniser and air quality sensor, a “cloud-based” infotainment system over-the-air software updates, a panoramic sunroof, and a Sony eight-speaker sound system.

Safety kit is not discounted here either, as the Tiggo 7 Pro is also offered with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep and lane centring assist, blind-spot monitor, rear-cross traffic alert, park assist, and automatic high-beam.

As for the mechanicals, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro in China is offered with two engine options; the first is a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four with 150 hp and 230 Nm, and the other a 1.6-litre turbocharged direct-injected four-banger that makes 197 hp and 290 Nm.

Drive is sent to the front wheels in both variants, but the 1.5-litre version gets a nine-virtual ratio CVT gearbox, while the more powerful 1.6-litre engine gets a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for a sportier driving experience.
