Sepang International Circuit to open new Driving Experience Centre by next year

Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has officially broke ground on their latest project which will see a Driving Experience Centre (DEC) built next to Sepang’s go-kart circuit.

According to SIC, the new DEC – the first of its kind in South East Asia – will serve as a ‘motoring education hub’ and construction is expected to be complete by June next year.

Aside from being a centre to discover and groom talent, the DEC will also be opened to the public who wish to sharpen their skills behind the wheel with advanced driving activities and courses. So far the closest thing to the DEC in the region is location in China, at the Porsche Experience Centre in Shanghai, China.

“With the circuit used for racing events and other motorsport activities, the DEC will be used to brush up one’s driving skill and safety awareness,” said SIC CEO, Azhan Shafriman Hanif.

Built on a 28-hectare plot of land, the new DEC will feature the following courses and activities to develop better drivers:

  • Handling circuit – 1.5 km circuit with 15 turns
  • Go-kart circuit – 1.1 km circuit
  • Kick Plate course – featuring a hydraulic-powered plate to simulate loss of traction
  • Skid circle – to simulate loss of grip on front and rear tyres
  • Off-road course – with steep inclines and challenging terrains
