2022 Range Rover Velar gains new HST flagship variant with sportier styling

As part of the 2022 model year update, Land Rover has added two new additions towards the top-end of the Range Rover Velar line-up, called the HST and Edition.

The former adds on “a combination of carefully curated design enhancements and chassis features”, and will become the Range Rover Velar’s new flagship variant. If HST sounds familiar to you, that’s because it’s also been previously offered on the Range Rover Sport and Evoque.

Taking the R-Dynamic S variant as a starting point, the HST adds a couple of usually-optional items as standard, specifically the Black Pack on the exterior, and a black contrast roof. The blacked-out 21-inch wheels are also standard, as are the privacy tinted glass.

As usual, you’ll be able to option the car in any colour you like from LR’s wide palette of exterior body paint hues for the Velar. However, the Arroios Grey colour you see here will be exclusive to the HST and Edition models.

Inside, the Velar HST gains a new black Suedecloth headliner, alongside a panoramic glass roof and Cabin Air Purification Plus system as standard. The Pivi Pro infotainment system has also been updated with new Amazon Alexa voice assistant functionality (also offered across the range if you option the range-topping infotainment package), as well as the Park Assist Pack as standard, which adds a surround-view camera and automatic parking capabilities.

For powertrains, the Velar HST will be offered exclusively with LR’s six-cylinder 3.0-litre mild-hybrid Ingenium engines. The P400 petrol version gets a 400 hp and 550 Nm of torque, which translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 5.5 seconds, while the D300 diesel mill gets 300 hp and 650 Nm, for a century sprint time of 6.5 seconds. Both engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

As for the aforementioned “chassis features”, the Range Rover Velar HST will come as standard with LR’s electronic air suspension set-up with adaptive dynamics, which – as the name suggests – adapts the car to road conditions and driver settings, promising “superior comfort and control”.

The bad news is that it’ll be available exclusively in the UK and North American markets, so the rest of us will just have to contain our jealousy, because it looks incredible.

The Range Rover Velar Edition meanwhile will be offered in most worldwide destinations, although the striking looks have been toned down a little due to its smaller 20-inch wheels. It’ll feature equipment based on the R-Dynamic SE, but also adds the same Black Pack exterior trims, alongside the black panoramic roof, and privacy glass.
