Lotus Emira “First Edition” previewed in Malaysia, with a 3.5-litre supercharged V6!

Lotus Kars Sdn. Bhd., distributor of Lotus sports cars in Malaysia recently previewed the new Lotus Emira locally and as we’ve shared before, it’ll be priced from RM1,131,800 on-the-road, while prices in Langkawi start from RM456,900.

Sitting behind the occupants is a Toyota-sourced 3.5-litre supercharged V6 paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Output is rated at 405 hp and 420 Nm. A 6-speed automatic gearbox is available as an option; increasing torque figures by 10 Nm to 430 Nm. 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.2 seconds with the automatic gearbox while rowing your own gears is only 0.1 seconds slower.

The Emira comes with full LED lighting and automatic headlamps, 20-inch forged alloy wheels, 4-pot brakes front and back, rear parking sensors, power-folding side mirrors, reverse parking sensors, and titanium exhaust tips. With the Lower Black Pack, the front air blades, front splitter, side sills, and rear diffuser are all finished in gloss black.

The Emira will also get the Drivers Pack for a choice of Sport or Touring suspension with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tyres or Sport suspension with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.

Inside, it’s more Evora than Elise or Exige. Unlike the Lotus sports cars we’ve been so familiar with, it’s a lot easier to get in and out of the Emira, with better rear visibility. It’s full of creature comforts too, like electric seats for both driver and passenger, while soft-touch materials can be felt on the dashboard and on the doors!

What’s that saying again, about real men and three pedals?

That’s not all, it also gets a fancy 10-speaker KEF sounds system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with cruise control, auto air-conditioning, and even keyless start! Nappa leather for the seats is offered as an option.

Options are aplenty for the Emira, including a Design Pack that adds privacy glass, sports pedals, Alcantara headlining and brake calipers either in black, red, yellow, or silver. The Design pack also comes with Lotus-branded footwell mats.

Opt for the Convenience Pack and the Emira will be fitted with front parking sensors, a reversing camera, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming mirrors, and a net for rear luggage.

The new Emira offers up to 208-litre of storage behind the two seats and 151-litres in the boot; enough for one cabin-sized luggage or a set of golf clubs.

What’s even more unusual about the 2nd model from a new generation of Lotus sports cars are its safety features. Not only does it come with curtain airbags, but also a host of driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane change assist, an anti-collision system, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Later on, the Emira will also be introduced here with an AMG-sourced 2.0-litre turbocharged engine – the most powerful 4-cylinder in production – paired to a dual-clutch gearbox, just like the one from the AMG A 45!
