Lotus Cars Malaysia recently marked its 30th anniversary with an event themed “3 Decades. 1 Future.” Since arriving in 1996, the brand has navigated three decades of engineering and design shifts, celebrating this milestone alongside legacy icons, owners, and partners.
A central highlight of the evening was a fireside chat featuring Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel, Tengku Djan Ley, Oh Kah Beng and Marcus Chye. The session offered a retrospective on the marque’s formative years, including the Proton-era legacy and the motorsport milestones that established the Lotus community in Malaysia.
Reflecting on this journey, Lotus Cars Malaysia and Karrus Automotive Group, Executive Director, Reza Mutalib, said, “This 30-year legacy is our foundation, and the future is ours to define. Malaysia has always been more than a market for Lotus; it is proof of what this brand can become when a passionate community truly embraces it.”
Translating that sentiment into a physical product, the event saw the unveiling of a Special Edition Lotus Eletre. This hyper-SUV features a unique 30th-anniversary badge and a livery inspired by the iconic John Player Special aesthetic, acting as a bridge between the brand’s racing roots and its electric future. Looking ahead in 2027, the company plans to introduce further enhanced specifications to the Malaysian market.
The anniversary also signalled a broader cultural push through collaborations with homegrown brands. These lifestyle ventures include a capsule streetwear collection with Pestle & Mortar and a Johor-sourced “Lotus Blend” coffee with One Half Roastery.
Beyond fashion and caffeine, the brand reaffirmed its commitment to the ownership experience through expanded showroom events and epic drives. To ensure performance remains at the heart of the next era, Lotus also announced its intention to set a new lap benchmark at the Sepang International Circuit with the all-electric Lotus Emeya.
