Honda Malaysia unveils new API SP Grade engine oil range

Honda Malaysia has introduced its latest range of engine oil for its vehicles, called the SP Grade, in line with the latest American Petroleum Institute (API) SP oil standards.

The new SP Grade engine oils will replace the existing SN Grade range, except for the SN 0W-30 fully-synthetic oil, which will still be available for high-performance models such as the Honda Civic Type R.

Honda Malaysia says the new SP Grade engine oils have been formulated in accordance to the requirements of their own engines, and is approved and recommended by Honda Research & Development.

Among the key upgrades to the SP Grade engine oil range is its enhanced protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), an abnormal combustion phenomenon which can cause significant damage to the engine, as well as timing chain wear protection to minimise chain elongation.

In addition to improved high temperature deposit protection for pistons and turbochargers, the SP Grade engine oils also provide better sludge and varnish control, valve train and intake lifter wear protection, higher oxidation stability, as well as emission control system protection.

The new SP Grade engine oil range, which consists of 10W-30 (mineral), 5W-30 (semi-synthetic) and 0W-20 (fully-synthetic) SAE viscosity grades, is now available at all 102 Honda authorised dealerships nationwide.
