JPJ drive-in counters begin – assures sufficient stocks of road tax and licence renewals

As more and more road users are planning to get their vehicle road tax and driving licenses renewed, it was reported that stocks for the documents are getting low, adding to the difficulty to renew the said documents.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has since issued a media statement regarding the stock situation, with JPJ State Branches and Pos Malaysia offices having well over 600,000 units of motor car road tax documents and driving licence cards.

The department has clarified that there are sufficient stocks for the renewal of the two key vehicle ownership documents.

As for the major difficulties in renewing the expired documents before the deadline of September 30th, JPJ mentioned that the appointment basis is done to ensure everyone’s safety and following the procedures issued by the Ministry of Health and National Security Council.

The public is encouraged to renew online through the mySikap JPJ as well as MyEG. The department has updated the procedure, allowing collection of the documents at any JPJ counters without making an appointment with payment done online.

To further increase the number of transactions and cater to those that are not well versed with the online method, JPJ has started introducing drive-through counters at their large state premises. So far, only JPJ Selangor, Melaka, Johor, Penang and Kelantan are among the state branches that have begun rolling out the drive-through counters.

Locations and operating hours of the drive-through counters will only be updated at the respective state JPJ branch’s social media websites and the department hopes to have the other remaining states offer the services soon.
