Lamborghini confirms the return of its former poster boy, the Countach!

Lamborghini has announced that the Countach name will be making a comeback, with a recent post on Instagram and Twitter with different teasers.

While the image of Instagram offers some sense of the new car’s silhouette, the message on Twitter can’t be any clearer. The 20-odd second (abstract) video does not reveal much either aside from Lamborghini’s poster boy making a return after 30 years since the last car rolled off the production line in 1990.

Timing-wise, it couldn’t be more perfect as Lamborghini is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Countach this year. It made its first-eve appearance when Lamborghini debuted the Countach LP500 in Yellow, at the Geneva motor show on the 11th of March 1971.

From 1974 to 1990, Lamborghini made 1,999 units of the Countach through five different model series as it went on to become a poster boy for supercars in the subsequent decades.

And as Lamborghini highlighted, the Countach did not just change the supercar game but also paved the way (design wise) for all the new models that came after it like the Diablo and Murcielago, for example.

“It’s the epitome of the DNA in all Lamborghini design, the tradition of the stylistic language from the origins to the present day,” said Lamborghini, Head of Design, Mitja Borkert.

For now, info is scarce but we know that it’ll be powered by a V12 engine according to Lamborghini’s recent announcement which specifically states that two new V12 models will be introduced in 2021.

The new Countach is set to usher in a new era of electrification for Lamborghini. Recently, the company announced a “three-phase road map” to electrification costing 1.5 billion Euros (approx.RM7.4 billion).

By 2024, its entire line-up of supercars will be electrified, followed by its first fully electric supercar by 2030. At the moment, the company is in the first phase, which pays tribute to the brand’s history and iconic products from the past and present.
