Video: Toyota Fortuner 2.8 VRZ facelift, 5 Things

A few days ago, UMW Toyota Motor launched the facelift Toyota Fortuner which will now feature three variants – the 2.7 SRZ, 2.8 VRZ and a 2.4-litre variant exclusively for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

The Fortuner comes with list of changes on both design and on-board features. At the front, the facelift Fortuner now comes with redesigned headlamps, more prominent “eye brows”, a new grille design and smaller fog light housing.

At the back the rear now features a completely blacked-out lower rear bumper, a black strip across the tailgate and L-shaped rear fog light trims.

The new facelift Fortuner 2.8 VRZ shares the same engine with the new Hilux, with 204 hp and 500 Nm. Meanwhile, the 2.7 SRZ model soldiers on with the same 2.7-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 166 hp and 245 Nm.

Both are equipped with 6-speed automatic transmissions with a new Sports mode, along with the new Auto LSD feature. The facelift Fortuner’s off-road capabilities have also been enhanced with the addition of Active Traction Control (in 4WD) to go with the Downhill Assist feature.

Also new in the Fortuner is the Variable Flow Control (VFC) power steering. The system puts the power steering pump on standby when the vehicle is not being steered. This helps reduce the strain on the engine, to improve fuel economy.

As for safety, the Fortuner comes with seven airbags and Toyota Safety Sense features such as Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert and autonomous braking.

The new facelift Fortuner is accompanied by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty with a revised service package. Instead of servicing every 5,000km/3 months, the interval has been extended to 10,000km/6 months.
