Sime Darby Auto Performance celebrates 10 years of Porsche, Taycan to launch in 2020!

Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) is celebrating its 10-year anniversary as the sole authorised importer and distributor of Porsche vehicles in Malaysia this year. Since its inception in 2010, the company saw 36 model launches in the country, along with 50 driving experiences and track days organised in the country.

In the 10 years, SDAP has also managed to expand its geographical footprint with the opening of new Porsche Centres in Sungai Besi, Penang, as well as the new flagship Porsche Centre in Ara Damansara – the largest in the South East Asia region.

Commenting on the momentous occasion, DAP Chief Executive Officer Christopher Hunter said, “We can’t help but feel a little nostalgic on all the Porsche moments we’ve created with our supporters and enthusiasts throughout the decade.

“From modest beginnings and only one Porsche Centre in Glenmarie at our inception, we’ve invested substantially to continue to grow our dealer network in major cities across the northern, central and southern region to bring new levels of quality customer and ownership experience.”

“Starting from our very first local launch with the second generation Cayenne to the recent 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder launch, we hope to continue to achieve greater heights of sports car fascination and evolve the brand in the country even more with our iconic sports cars.”

To commemorate the significant milestone, Sime Darby Auto Performance is giving away a 10 years SDAP special-edition Porsche Driver’s Selection polo tee to customers placing orders for any new or pre-owned Porsche model, or make a service appointment from the dealer webpage from now until 17 September 2020.

For non-Porsche owners, you can also join in the fun with the creative selfie contest, held on their Facebook and Instagram pages until the 17th of September. All you need to do is to take a selfie with a Porsche vehicle at any Porsche Centres nationwide, and write the most creative congratulatory message to SDAP for its tenth anniversary to to be in the running to win a ‘911 GT edition’ 1:18 diecast model!

The Porsche Taycan “stormed” into the Asia Pacific region with a special Star Wars launch.

Looking ahead, SDAP is expecting to unveil its new Porsche Centre in Johor Bahru next year. But most importantly, the company has also teased the arrival of the all-electric Porsche Taycan, to be launched in Malaysia “soon” in 2020!

No indication as to which variant will be making its way to our shores, but the Taycan is available globally in four variants: the standard Taycan, Turbo, Turbo S, and 4S.

Starting with the currently China-only base Taycan model, the single electric motor on the rear axle pushes out 402 hp, and is paired to a special two-speed transmission. If fitted with the larger 93.4 kWh Performance Battery Plus, power output is bumped up to 469 hp.

As for the rest of the world, all Taycan variants currently come with an additional electric motor up front. The 4S is the “smallest” of the bunch, with an output of 530 hp and 640 Nm on the standard battery (79.2 kWh), or 571 hp and 650 Nm with the upgraded Performance Battery Plus.

The Turbo and Turbo S variants only come with the larger battery pack, and performance is once again upped to a staggering 680 hp/850 Nm and 761 hp/1,050 Nm (!) respectively. In terms of range, the Taycan can be driven between 407 km (4S with standard battery) to 489 km (standard Taycan with the bigger battery pack) on a single charge.
