The 4S is the thinking man’s Porsche Taycan

If the prices of Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S sent chills down your spine during its recent unveiling, there is now a new variant which will raise our hopes (and dreams) of owning Zuffenhausen’s all-electric 4-door.

Based on UK prices and starting at £83,367 (including VAT), the Taycan 4S is a whopping 40% lower than the top-of-the-line Turbo S and a substantial 28% less than the Turbo, yet it doesn’t give up much in terms of range with a potential 407 km per full charge against the Turbo’s 450 km.

In fact, when optioned with the Performance Battery Plus, the Taycan 4S is able to achieve a theoretical range of 463 km (WLTP combined cycle) in tandem with the upgrade in battery capacity from the standard 79.2 kWh to 93.4 kWh, which also raises the output from 530 hp to 571 hp, as well as the corresponding torque from 640 Nm to 650 Nm.

Performance is dialled down slightly when compared to the Turbo and Turbo S, but you can’t describe a 0-100 km/h time of 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h as anything but rapid, and the 4S also retains all-wheel drive with a synchronous electric motor residing over each axle, along with a two-speed transmissions, just like its faster siblings.

Design cues to differentiate the 4S from the Turbo models include 19-inch Taycan S Aero alloy wheels, red-painted brake callipers, a new front apron, side sills and a rear diffuser finished in black. Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus LED headlamps come as standard as well.
