Sime Darby Auto Performance has just launched the new Porsche 718 Spyder in Malaysia with prices starting from RM970,000, alongside the Cayman GT4 from RM990,000.
The 718 Spyder is powered by a naturally-aspirated engine with rev-matching function that makes 45 hp more than before. The engine is a redesigned version of the 3.0-litre turbocharged unit from the current 992-generation Porsche 911.
Engine: 4.0-litre flat-six boxer engine
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Horsepower: 420 hp
Torque: 420 Nm
0 to 100 km/h: 4.4 seconds
Top speed: 301 km/h
The 718 Spyder’s roof can be stowed away in just a few steps and unlike the GT4 which comes with a fixed spoiler, the 718 Spyder has an active spoiler that pops up at 120 km/h. A rear diffuser also means the 718 Spyder is the first model in the Boxster family to generate downforce at the rear axle.
A front lip spoiler with “Spyder” lettering helps channel air through the front air intakes, exiting at the back of front bonnet for better downforce. The 718 Spyder is built on the same chassis as the Cayman GT4, with 30mm lower ride height than before. The lightweight suspension assembly with ball joints ensures more precise handling and a more direct connection between the car, driver and the road.
- 20-inch alloys
- Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres
- Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
- Aluminium monobloc fixed caliper brakes
- Active rear spoiler
Inside, occupants would be first greeted by a pair of massive bucket seats, with generous amounts of leather, brushed aluminium trims and Alcantara-like material splashed across the cabin. Only the rev counter is analog while the other four dials flanking it – two on each side – adopts a digital display.
The optional Spyder Classic interior package gives the cabin a more retro look reminiscent to Porsche’s historic racing cars with Bordeaux Red and Black combination upholstery.
Recently, Sime Darby Auto Performance also launched the limited edition 911 Speedster where only 1,948 units are available, priced from RM2.7 million. For more information on the Porsche 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4 models, click here.
