2019 Perodua Axia STYLE unveiled with crossover inspired styling

At the official unveiling of the 2019 Perodua Axia, Perodua has given us an exciting surprise — a new STYLE variant.

While technically not an SUV, the Perodua Axia STYLE is taller by 15mm than the regular, and dressed up with rugged-looking front and rear bumpers with skid plate elements, all-round body cladding, clear-lens tail lamps, roof mouldings, a rear spoiler and 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.

The crossover-inspired variant will be offered with a variant-exclusive Sunrise Orange body colour.

Perodua’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said, “the new Perodua Axia STYLE embodies the desire to be different; to unleash the fun and active side that exists in all of us. It is upbeat and trendy, and at the same time retains all the hallmark Axia qualities of practicality, spaciousness, clever design and ease to drive.”

The Perodua Axia STYLE will be offered with the same 1.0-litre VVT-i engine, mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. With all the additional weight from the added accessories, the Axia Style has unfortunately lowered its fuel consumption values to 20.8 km/l. However, the Style variant is still qualified under the Energy-Efficient Vehicle (EEV) programme.

Safety wise, the Perodua Axia Style variant includes vehicle stability control (VSC), traction control, anti brake-lock system (ABS), and electric brake-force distribution (EBD). The new Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 system that includes auto emergency braking funtionalities is only reserved for the range-topping AV variant.

On the inside, the Axia STYLE is comparable to the SE variant, with the only difference being the door card trim. the Axia STYLE has a regular full trim door card, whereas the SE gets an additional fabric finish. However, the STYLE variant gets it’s own fabric design on the semi-bucket seats. The Axia STYLE also chose to omit the Bluetooth connectivity on the head unit, leaving the audio system with just a USB connection for music playback.

While it certainly looks the part as a rugged offroader, the Perodua Axia STYLE will only be driving with its front wheels, and equipped with regular road tyres and suspension. If you are looking to do some offroading in sand or mud, you might want to look elsewhere!

The Perodua Axia Style is priced at RM38,890 for Peninsula Malaysia, and RM40,890 in the East Malaysia region. You can check out our coverage on the other 2019 Perodua Axia variants here.
