Perodua has officially unveiled the 2019 Perodua Axia. The market leading A-segment hatchback is now Malaysia’s most affordable car with advanced safety features.
The 2019 Perodua Axia will be offered in six variants — E, G, GXtra, SE, AV and an exciting STYLE variant, sporting a crossover-inspired look. The new Perodua Axia variants are priced between RM24,090 and RM43,190 on the road before insurance for Peninsular Malaysia.
Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 has made it’s way down the family, and is now available in the AV variant of the 2019 Perodua Axia. The ASA 2.0 includes safety features such as pedestrian detection (up to 50 km/h), pre-collision warning (up to 100 km/h), pre-collision braking (up to 80 km/h), front departure alert and pedal misoperation control.
Perodua’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said, “the 2019 Perodua Axia carries on the spirit while offering Malaysians much more in an entry-level vehicle than ever thought possible. It offers major advances in safety and style never seen before in this segment and yet retains its affordability.”
All variants will be offered with the same 1.0-litre VVT-i engine producing 68 hp and 91 Nm of torque. Drive is sent to the front wheels in all variants. The entry-level E variant will be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission; all other variants only get a 4-speed automatic.
Being a facelift, the 2019 Perodua Axia generally looks pretty similar to the outgoing model. The 2019 Axia sports an updated standard bumpers and garnishing design, while the STYLE variant gets its own unique look. We cover the Axia STYLE in depth in our separate story here.
The SE and AV variants form the “premium” range, with added extra skirtings on all four sides of the vehicle and a spoiler at the back. In addition, the SE and AV get a “high type” headlamps and added front fog lamps. The “premium” variants also get turning indicators on the retractable electronic side mirrors.
The Axia E will be equipped with 14-inch steel rims, while the other variants get 14-inch alloy wheels. The Axia STYLE is the only variant to be offered with a 15-inch alloy rims.
On the inside, the top two variants come with semi-bucket style seats, donned in SE styling fabric seats. The Axia SE will have an audio system with USB and Bluetooth, while the Axia AV gets a touch-screen infotainment system with navigation, Smart Link, USB, Bluetooth and HDMI connectivity. All other variants get a regular audio system without Bluetooth, while the E variant does not come with an audio system.
Safety wise, the 2019 Perodua Axia comes equipped with dual ABS airbags on all variants, anti brake-lock system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) on the G and above, while the GXtra, SE, AV and STYLE gets an additional vehicle stability control (VSC) and traction control (TC) features. As stated earlier, the AV variant also gets the additional ASA 2.0 system.
With more than 5,000 bookings made even before its public reveal, the Perodua Axia will be looking to maintain its status as the best-selling A-segment hatchback in Malaysia.
