The Mercedes-Benz Concept GLB proves luxury will still prevail post-apocalypse

If you think that luxury will seize to exist, in a post-apocalyptic world, Mercedes-Benz is proving that wrong with the Concept GLB, unveiled at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show.

For starters, it actually isn’t as big as it looks. Comparing the dimensions and you’d realise that the GLB is only as big as the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

It’s probably the immense ride height and the bulgier proportions that makes this look more G63 than GLC, but we absolutely love it. Couple that with 17-inch wheels wrapped in chunky off-road tyres and you have an SUV that’s ready for I Am Legend Pt. 2 – if only they can figure out how to revive Will Smith.

While it may look rough and tough on the outside, the cabin is a testament that luxury can be had wherever you are, whenever. Chestnut brown seats, aluminium trims and wood inlays are just Mercedes-Benz’ way of saying that you’d still get the best or nothing, even when zombies roam the earth.

And you won’t have to face them alone. In fact, you can carry six other passengers (or rather post-apocalypse survivors) as the GLB will come as a seven-seater.

It won’t have a problem running away from zombies with a full load too; with 224 hp and 350 Nm (about the same output as the GLC) from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired to an 8-speed dual clutch transmission.
