At the preview of the new Subaru Forester e-Boxer in Singapore, Motor Image Subaru has stuck to their word that the fifth-generation Subaru Forester will be making its Malaysian debut sometime in May 2019.

Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system will be available in Malaysia but will be reserved for the more expensive variant(s). The EyeSight system on the Forester bundles new innovations such as Reverse Automatic Braking (prevents a collision when in reverse), Rear Vehicle Detection, Steering Responsive Headlights, High-beam assist and Driver Monitoring System that alerts the driver when it detects signs of distraction or drowsiness.

To recap, the new Forester sits on the new Subaru Global Platform that promises best-in-class collision safety and responsive handling characteristics. A 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder Boxer engine with 182 hp and 238 Nm was introduced at the model’s global debut, but Malaysian market will most likely receive the FB20 2.0-litre Boxer unit pushing out 156 hp and 196 Nm. The company did not dwell on the idea of the introduction of the hybrid-powered Forester e-Boxer here in Malaysia any time soon.

Motor Image has previously hinted that our local-spec Forester will not be too different from the ones sold in Taiwan so we can expect LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, 17- or 18-inch alloys, electronic parking brake, multifunctional steering wheel and leather upholstery. Not sure if more premium goodies like the powered sunroof and powered tailgate will make its way to our local spec car though.
