Lexus just tore up the car design rule book with the LC Convertible Concept

The debut of the LC Coupe a few years ago did not only put Lexus on the map with its new design language but also set a new benchmark for automotive design. It also exemplified the possibility where concept designs need not be diluted by production woes.

Lexus has now pushed the boundaries further and showcased briefly what’s to come with the Lexus LC Convertible Concept, which will make its world premiere at the 2019 North American International Auto Show.

Check out the video above and you’d know how far Lexus has pushed the envelope in terms of automotive design. The Convertible Concept, although stemmed from the athletic proportions of the LC Coupe, holds its own with a unique identity.

“This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC coupe and re-imagines it as a future convertible. It blends all the best aspects of the original coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible,” said Chief Designer of the LC Convertible Concept, Tadao Mori.

Sacrificing the carbon fibre roof on the Coupe clearly has not ruined the lines of the car, something I’d imagine was hard to achieve. Just take a look at the new convertible 911 and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

It’s also hard to imagine Lexus offering a different engine from the coupe. Blessed with a 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 making close to 500 hp and over 500 Nm of torque, it strikes a near perfect balance between refinement and muscle.

“It would engage the senses in a way that is unique and exciting every time you get behind the wheel,” said Mori-san. We can’t wait to experience that Sir.
