The Audi SQ2 may not have the firepower to outgun its rival the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45, but there is one thing the four rings outshines the three-pointed star – its interior.
Debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the SQ2 is the hottest Q2 to date. Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder TFSI petrol engine pushing out 300 hp and 400 Nm. A seven-speed S-Tronic dual clutch is tasted to send power to all-four-wheels via the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Century sprint takes 4.8 seconds while top speed is capped at 250 km/h. It makes the century sprint 0.4 seconds slower than the GLA 45 if you must know.
While its exterior is relatively discreet with the only difference being the lower ride height (-20 mm), Singleframe grille with eight vertical slats, quad exhaust, 19-inch alloys, diffuser inserts and big brake kit measuring 340 mm in diameter front and 310 mm diameter at the rear. No shouty rear wing here, everything is about subtlety and class.
The cabin tells a completely different story because everywhere you look reminds you of the SQ2’s sporty intent. The upholstery is available in a combination of leather, fabric and Alcantara. But if you’re feeling fancy, you can have your seats draped in rhombus Nappa leather matched with contrast stitching in red and grey.
There are two options for the decorative inlay a red anodized paint finish or the backlit Format Lighting Graphics that changes according to the 10-ambient lighting colour selected. The air vents can be had with red interior rings as an option.
Other items available in the luxuriously appointed cabin include a flat-bottomed multifunctional steering wheel with paddle shifters, 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit, Heads-up Display, Sport Seats, illuminated door sill with sport S logos, 8.3-inch Audi MMI Navigation Plus and 705 Watt 14-speakers Bang & Olufsen Surround Sound System.
The SQ2 is also available with the full suite of advanced driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, traffic jam assist (up to 65 km/h), Audi active lane assist, cross traffic assist rear, Audi side assist, park assist and autonomous emergency braking.
