It’s probably not for those with supercars wrapped in alcantara or those so wired up with LED they belong in a Christian living room on Christmas Day.

Only 44 units of the Audi R8 “Sport Performance Parts” version based on the Audi R8 V10 will be available worldwide, with only five in right-hand drive heading to the UK. To be part of that exclusive club, Audi Sport will be asking £176,560 (RM943k) for it.

The R8’s front end is homage to the first-generation Audi R8 GT – with more defined air inlets, a deep front splitter and sculpted canards on both corners of the front bumper.

Among the “Sport Performance Parts” you get includes an aero kit developed in the wind tunnel, made exclusively from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP); as is the large fixed rear wing and diffuser.

All the extra aerodynamic add-ons are no fuss; with a significant increase in downforce. At 205 mph (330 km/h), the R8 generates 100kg more than the standard R8 V10 plus.

Coping with all the aerodynamic wizardy is a set of lightweight 20-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres (305 rear width) clawing onto the tarmac. Also lightweight is the three-way coilover suspension setup, accompanied by ceramic brake discs for road and track use.

Regularly spend countless hours online looking at cars and parts I can't afford to buy. How a car makes you feel behind the wheel should be more important than the brand it represents - unless resale value is your thing.
