Volkswagen USA has just unveiled the all-new 2019 Jetta – one of the most successful sedans with over 17 million units sold worldwide since it was introduced in 1979.
It’s powered by Volkswagen’s 1.4-litre turbocharged TSI engine making 147 hp and 249 Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
On the outside, LED headlights, taillights and daytime running lights are standard. It’s also got a longer wheelbase but with shorter front overhangs, while being taller and wider at the same time – opening up more interior space than the current outgoing model.
The new model is now 10% more aerodynamic with a drag co-efficient of 0.27 – credit to a special low-turbulence rear design, flow-optimised underbody panels, drag-reduced aluminium alloy wheels and an air curtain in the front. Vertical air intakes by the fog lights help guide air through the bumper and serves as an aerodynamic curtain in the front of the wheel arches.
Inside, the 2019 Jetta features digital instruments for the first time where the Active Info Display and infotainment systems are interconnected. The Volkswagen Digital Cockpit display allows drivers to configure and re-position all the important data for easy viewing. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are available along with a 400-watt BeatsAudio system, the first Volkswagen in the US to feature it.
The 2019 Jetta’s interior had also been fully redesigned featuring soft-touch materials and new trapezoidal design elements. It also features a 10-colour ambient lighting system surrounding an interior which will be offered with heated and ventilated front seats, power adjustable seats with memory, dual zone Climatronic air-conditioning.
Safety features are also abundant in the new 2019 Jetta – Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), Automatic Post-Collision Braking, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), High Beam Control (Light Assist) and Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist) – are among the noteworthy.
An R-Line is said to join the Jetta line-up at launch with more sporty and aggressive styling, R-Line badging and the coveted XDS electronic differential.
