Three months after the Definitive Agreement between DRB-HICOM Berhad and Zhejiang Geely Holdings (Geely) has been signed to appoint Geely as Proton’s Foreign Strategic Partner (FSP), the two companies have just confirmed a new management structure for Proton Holdings Berhad (PHB) and its related companies under the Proton Group.
Proton Group and Geely has appointed Dr. Li Chunrong as PONSB’s (Perusahan Otomobil National Sdn Bhd) new Chief Executive Officer, following the departure of Dato’ Ahman Fuaad Kenali. Dr. Li will be assisted by current deputy CEO, Dato’ Radzaif Mohammed in the revitalisation plan for Proton.
PHB remains chaired by Dato’ Sri Syed Faisal Albar who is joined by DRB-HICOM nominees Shaharul Farez Hassan and Amalanathan Thomas. Geely has also nominated Daniel Donghui Li, current Executive Vice President and CFO of Geely Holding as well as Feng Qing Feng, Group Vice President and CTO of Geely Auto to join the board of PHB.
All five members will also sit on the board of PONSB along with Dr. Nathan Yu Ning, Vice President of International Business at Geely Holding and Winfried Vahland, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Skoda Auto.
Dr. Li will assume his position as PONSB’s CEO from 1 October 2017 onwards and will work together with both companies on the turnaround plan for Proton. The first model to be conceived from this new partnership will be the local assembly of the Boyue mid-sized SUV which will go on sale in late 2018.
