Honda Urban EV Concept, throwback to the first Honda Civic with electric-power

Honda’s has pulled the wraps of its all-new electric vehicle, the Urban EV Concept. Riding on a completely new platform specifically for electric vehicles, Honda has confirmed that the road-going production model will be presented within two years.

Technical details of the concept car was scarce at press time, but the Urban EV Concept will set the grounds for future EVs to come from the brand. Visually the concept car resembles the first-generation Civic with low and muscular stance, hinting at sporty driving capabilities. Its overall length is shorter than even the Jazz by 100 mm. The perfect city commuter perhaps?

The Honda emblem up front is backlit in blue, while the empty spaces between the headlamps is said to be capable of displaying interactive multilingual messages such as greetings, advice for other drivers on the road, or charging status updates.

Inside, the Urban EV Concept boasts superior outward visibility thanks to its ultra slim A-pillars. While it may not seem like it, the concept car is able to accommodate four occupants with lounge-like comfort. The panoramic display screen upfront creates a futuristic floating dash board as it feeds all the necessary driving data to the driver.

Honda’s Urban EV Concept also showcases the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) personal concierge – Honda Automated Network Assistant Concierge. The AI learns from the driver’s behaviour and provide relevant recommendations for the driver.

The Honda Urban EV Concept is an extension of the Japanese marque’s ‘Electric Vision’ strategy where they have pledged for the development of a dedicated electric vehicle platform, fully-electric powertrain technology, next-generation battery packs and the evolution of energy transfer functions.
