Mercedes-AMG turns 50 this year, launches a trio of limited edition AMGs

Many years ago, the AMG tuning company was founded by former Mercedes-Benz engineers who transformed mundane “uncle cars” into hardcore, high performing machines. Daimler AG wasted no time in acquiring them, which later became known as Mercedes-AMG.

However, all that happened 50 years ago and to commemorate the momentous occasion, the company launched a trio of super fast specials.

Spearheading this celebration is none other than the AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50. Only 500 units of this convertible GT C will be made, and with only two colours to choose from – Graphite Grey or Cashmere White. Aesthetic enhancements include black chrome exterior accents, whereas the black and silver contrasts extend into the cabin. AMG Interior Night Package comes fitted as standard.

The go-fast looking bits aren’t actually complemented by a mechanical upgrade, unfortunately. The same 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine still makes 557 hp and 680 Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, allowing for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 316 km/h.

Next up are the Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC Night Editions models. Available in both coupe and cabriolet forms, enhancements are mainly on the cosmetic side. Just like the S-Class Coupe Night Edition, it is finished with black exterior trims. This too, trickles into the cabin.

The last of the trio goes to the more exclusive Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition, where just 150 units will be made. The Ocean Blue finish actually appears to be the colour of the fabric roof and the contrast stitching on the inside. This C63 gets the same Graphite Grey and Cashmere White as the GT C Roadster Edition 50.

Order books for these trio of Mercedes-AMGs will be opened from 6 March 2017 onwards. Deliveries begin as early as Q2 of 2017.
