Mitsubishi Outlander to arrive in Malaysia by Q1 2016

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has announced that the third-generation Mitsubishi Outlander will be arriving here in early 2016, most likely towards the end of the first quarter. We’ll be getting the facelifted version which was first introduced to the US market in April earlier this year, bearing the company’s new “Dynamic Shield” design language.

MMM isn’t revealing much at press time, but what we can confirm is that the 7-seater SUV (formerly known as the Mitsubishi Airtrek) will come with a naturally aspirated MIVEC petrol engine, seven airbags, powered tailgate, powered sunroof, LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and Active Stability Control.2016 Mitsubishi Outlander - AutoBuzz.my

The company also jumped at the opportunity to say that the SUV will offer a spacious cabin which, judging from the pictures, can somewhat work in their favour. More on the interior – we can expect the Outlander to come with all the facelifted variant’s niceties, which include the new steering wheel, improved upholstery and headlining as well as a brand new head unit.

North American buyers have two engine options – a 2.4-litre four-cylinder SOHC engine or a 3.0-litre V6 (also Single Over Head Cam) which make 166 hp at 6,000 rpm and 220 Nm of torque and 224 hp and 292 Nm of torque respectively. Both engines are mated to an improved CVT gearbox that gives better acceleration, performance, “shift feel” and torque delivery. MMM hasn’t confirmed which engine the Malaysian-bound Outlander with come with, but the smaller 2.4-litre unit seems most promising at this point.2016 Mitsubishi Outlander - AutoBuzz.my

More details on the Mitsubishi Outlander will be revealed in due time. MMM’s CEO, Mr. Yang Won-Chul said, “We are excited to introduce a 7-seater SUV to the Malaysian market very soon. The Mitsubishi Outlander SUV is MMM’s first model to be introduced with the new ‘Dynamic Shield’ concept, and it comes with an array of safety and premium features.”

Needless to say, 2016 will be a year of SUVs, with the new Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner and Pajero Sport all slated for their Malaysian debut next year. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia remains tight lipped about their product offensive next year, but we strongly believe the GL lineup will be introduced, beginning with the GLE which will be launched in January.
