We were a little jealous when we saw Thailand launched the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG earlier this year at the 2015 Bangkok Motor Show. To our surprise, we spotted one in Malaysia today! This white BMW X6 rival was seen parked in Bangsar with proper registration plate.
We believe this yet to be launched model is a fine grey import that arrived way before Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) can unveil it here. Speaking of which, MBM will be launching the GLE coupe here in Malaysia next month!
If you are a little unfamiliar with the model name, then you might not have heard about Mercedes-Benz’s new naming convention. The German automaker’s SUV M-Class has been renamed to ‘GLE’, with the all-new model revealed in March this year. There’s a shrunken version of the GLE, named ‘GLC‘. No, nothing to do with our government.
What you are looking at here is the coupe variant which is introduced to slice off a big chunk of BMW X6’s piece of pie. The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC was introduced in Thailand with a 7,990,000 Thai Baht (approx. RM900,000) price tag.
This kitted up SUV coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 Bi-Turbo with a 9G-TRONIC 9-speed Automatic gearbox, generating 367hp and 520Nm of torque.
The top of the range GLE 63 S Coupé produces 585hp and 760Nm via its 5.5-litre V8 Bi-Turbo powerplant. That will be a tough one for the X6 M to chew.
The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe will be launching in Malaysia in January 2016. Check out the First Look style video we did on the GLE 450 AMG coupe at Bangkok Motor Show.
