Kia Cerato Koup 1.6L Turbo now on sale in Malaysia, yours for RM136k

Kia’s official distributor, NAZA Kia Malaysia has finally revealed the pricing for the 2015 Kia Cerato Koup after seven months since it was put on public display at the One Utama Shopping Centre. This turbocharged Korean coupe is priced at RM135,888 – about RM14k shy of its initial pricing, which is big news for those who have been eyeing it.

Before talking about its performance, let’s glance through the kit list to see what comes packaged with this red-hot Koup. At the front, the Cerato Koup bears Kia’s signature Tiger-nose grille that’s slimmer than its sedan sibling and a sportier front bumper complete with a lower grille finished in faux carbon fibre. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Illumination source is HID, and the headlights also come fitted with LED daytime running lights as standard. Round the side, you’ll spot the sleek 18-inch rims shod with 225/40 series Nexen NBlue HD tyres, black-finished side mirrors and keyless entry. At the back, the taillamp clusters differ from the sedan’s, as is the bumper which features an integrated diffuser. Its rump is finished off with dual tail pipes and a rather oddly placed reverse camera. The shark fin antenna comes free of charge, of course.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Upon opening the frameless doors, you’ll first notice the firm leather-wrapped sports seats, but unfortunately both the front seats are manually adjustable. There’s some minor carbon fibre trimmings on the air conditioning vents and door trims which can be a hit or miss to some.

This sole-trim Cerato Koup comes with dual-zone automatic climate control with cluster ioniser, smart welcoming light system, electrochromic rear view mirror with integrated reverse camera, a miniscule screen in the centre dash and passive cruise control.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This Korean’s party piece resides under the hood – a 1.6-litre Gamma T-GDi (Turbo, Gasoline Direct Injection) four-cylinder engine that’s capable of producing 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 265 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm. The front wheels receive power from a six-speed automatic gearbox (torque converter, not dual-clutch like the Veloster Turbo), allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a respectable 7.4 seconds before topping out at 222 km/h. Keep your hands off the paddle shifters and you’ll likely manage 7.4 litres per 100km, or at least that’s how much fuel Kia claims it’ll sip.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Other stuff worthy of keeping check are the six airbag count, front and rear parkings sensors, Brake Assist, Hill Assist Control and Vehicle Stability Management. It’s available in just three exterior colours – Racing Red, Aurora Black Pearl and Clear White. The pricing (RM135,888) excludes insurance, and each purchase comes with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty. The 2015 Kia Cerato Koup 1.6L T-GDi is now available for viewing at your nearest authorised Kia showroom.
