Mitsubishi ASX Designer Edition launched, priced at RM132k – 4WD only

Yep, you read the title right. Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) have just recently introduced their limited edition, top-spec only ASX Designer Edition. It’s the result of a collaboration between MMM and a renowned local fashion designer Rizalman Ibrahim. We must say, it does prove to be quite a looker.

Priced at RM131,801.50 (OTR without insurance), the Designer Edition costs just RM3,000 more than the regular 4WD ASX, which makes this a bargain buy to be honest, even if the changes are only cosmetics.

For starters, the Mitsubishi ASX Designer Edition comes in only one colourTitanium Grey, and is exclusive to this 4WD-only variant. Now for the obvious. The crossover gets a matte grey body stripe that stretches from the front to the rear of the car, with the latter sporting a larger and sportier rear spoiler that is complemented with a shark fin antenna.ASX Designer Edition rear

The 17-inch alloy wheels are now finished in matte black, although it’s believed that the wheels were given a few coats of paint over the original ones in which the regular 4WD ASX sits on (the 2WD sits on 16-inches). Be that as it may, there’s no denying that the wheels do look good, and the choice to paint the wheels does bring costs down, so it’s a win-win. The exhaust on this limited edition ASX is finished in dark chrome instead of the regular polished chrome.sunroof

The good news doesn’t stop there, for those interested. The interior also gets its fair share of Rizalman’s touch, with the seats now clad in the theme-inspired grey perforated leather which are accentuated with yellow trims and stitching. This usage of leather gets extended to the door panels and the now two-toned gear knob, whereas the floor mats get the bright-yellow Designer Edition badge. To top it off, the touchscreen head unit is also customised to feature the designer’s name upon startup.

As much as we love mechanical tweaks, this limited edition ASX shares the exact powertrain as the regular 2WD and 4WD variants – the 2.0-litre four-cylinder MIVEC engine that makes 150 hp and 197 Nm of torque. Power gets sent to all four wheels via the INVECS-III CVT gearbox with six-step sports mode. It also has the magnesium paddle shifters mounted to the steering rack that we all love.ASX Designer Edition

Again, for RM3,000, that is one impressive list of customisation for the ageing crossover. If you’re keen, you ought to know that the locally assembled Mitsubishi ASX Designer Edition is limited to only 180 units nationwide. It also comes with a five-year with unlimited mileage warranty programme.
