BMW Group Malaysia have just announced the arrival of another F30 variant, this time in the guise of the BMW 320i Sport Edition. The locally assembled premium compact executive sedan is given a price tag of RM258,800 (OTR without insurance), up about RM17k from the regular 320i (RM241,800).

Before we get into the details of the 320i Sport Edition, here’s a brief idea of where the new variant sits in the F30 stable:
So what do you get when you fork out an additional RM17k for what is essentially another 320i? Well, for one, you get the 18-inch double-spoke light-alloy wheels (wrapped with 225/45 R18 series tyres) which are found on the 328i Sport Line variant. This effectively replaces the 17-inchers on the cheaper 320i. That’s about it on the outside, though.
On the inside, the 320i Sport Edition gets the same 6.5-inch iDrive head unit but is now smacked with a GPS navigation system which BMW calls the “Navigation systems Business”. The instrument cluster is also new with an enlarged multi-info display, reminiscent of the 328i. Also new to the interior are the nine-speaker HiFi loudspeaker system with a 205 Watt amplifier.
No changes have been made under the hood, unfortunately. To recap however, the same effervescent 2.0-litre turbocharged mill powers the F30, one that is capable of making 184 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 270 Nm of torque from 1,250 to 4,500 rpm. Such numbers propel the car from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and onto a top speed of 235 km/h. All this is achieved thanks to the proven eight-speed automatic transmission which drives the rear wheels.
The BMW 320i Sport Edition comes in six shades of colours: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red, Glacier Silver, Imperial Blue and Mineral Grey. Priced at RM258,800, it comes with a three-year or 60,000km BMW Service + Repair Inclusive warranty programme.
