The all-new Honda Odyssey was launched at KLIMS 2013 just two weeks after its debut in Japan. The 1st generation Odyssey was first introduced in 1994 and this is now the 5th generation. Honda reckons its premium MPV is able to cater to the market demands here with its improved design, performance, space, comfort and safety.
According to MD and CEO of Honda Malaysia, Mr. Yoichiro Ueno, the new MPV offers an unprecedented level of premium quality, combining roomy and refined comfort for occupants in all 3 rows with an exceptional smooth ride. It is powered by the newly developed 2.4L DOHC i-VTEC Earth Dreams Technology engine together with a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT). This new powertrain produces 175 horsepower and 225Nm of torque. It is said to perform better than the previous model in terms of output, torque and fuel efficient.
The current generation Odyssey is designed with a very low ground clearance, which allows stable handling. This trait has been passed on the the 5th-gen, but taller. With its “Ultra-Low Floor Platform” and higher ceiling, it means passengers will have spacious cabin and more comfortable ride. Honda has also fitted its first “Premium Captain Cradle Seats with Ottoman and Honda’s first 3-step reclining seats in second row. The seats in the EXV model comes in leather.
One feature that will keep your children happy is its audio display that can be cooperated with a smart phone. Occupants can operate the smart phone via its electrostatic touch type display. It can even transmit music and photos from the smart phone to the audio display.
As for safety, it has 6-airbags in total; Dual Front i-SRS Airbags and i-SRS Side Airbags in first row and Side Curtain Airbags up until the third row seats. In the EXV model, the new Odyssey is fitted with Blind Spot Information with Cross Traffic Monitor (CTA). It basically alerts driver with beeping sound if there’s approaching vehicle in the blind sport where the driver wants to turn. The CTA whistles when it detects approaching vehicle when the MPV is reversing. It is also equipped with Smart Parking Assist System that detects parking line and auto-piloting it into a parking space.
The all-new Odyssey comes in two options, a standard model ‘EV’ and the luxury model ‘EXV. The EV is priced at RM228,000 and with an additional RM20,000 you get much more add-ons in the EXV.
Also highlighted at Honda’s booth is its first plug-in hybrid, the Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid. Powered by the new Earth Dreams Technology, a 2.0L i-VTEC and Honda’s first two motor hybrid system. This is an Accord that you can charge using your house power sockets. It is however is just a display and no news on when this will come to Malaysia. Something to look forward to this.
