The new BMW 4 series launched in Malaysia



The 3 series coupe was last seen on the previous generation of the E90. This is because BMW has decided to introduce the coupe version of the current generation of the 3 series, the F30, into a new series of its passenger car lineup. With that the new 4 series was launched, and now Malaysians can get the first generation of the 4 series coupe. First impression was this premium coupe is seriously gorgeous and poised to provide serious competition to the Audi A5.

With the design aesthetics and technical specs shares similiarly with the 6th generation of 3 series, the F30, the new 4 series was shaped with more sportier edges than the F30. To identify the new 4 series with sporty car credentials, two trims were introduced and first we have the 428i Sports serving as the entry level, with optional M Sports package. The 428i trim will spot 18” Double-spoke light-alloy wheels with M Sport suspension and black high-gloss mirror caps. Propel the 428i will be the familiar 2.0 twin turbo engine with max output of 180 kW / 245 hp with torque peaking at 350 Nm, enabling performance figures of 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.8 seconds at a top speed of 250 km/h with average fuel economy in the EU test cycle stands at a notable 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres and C02 emissions are just 149 grams per kilometre.

The other trim will be the 435i M Sports which comes with the M Sport package as standard featuring 19” BMW M Double-spoke light-alloy wheels, adaptive M suspension, M sport brakes, electrical glass roof, and a comfort access system. The 435i is powered by 225 kW / 306 hp from a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, with a peak torque of 400 Nm. The engine achieves acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h, and records fuel savings at 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres with C02 emissions of a mere 172 grams per kilometre.

The best part on the new 4 series is the coupe features a 50-50 weight distribution which translate the coupe will have signature BMW’s famous agile ride and handling capabilities. Powered with the electromechanical steering with Servotronic function which allows the steering behaves in proportion to the car’s road speed enhanced precision capabilities.

Both trims allows drivers to choose the ECO PRO mode with the Driving Experience Control button featured as standard for economical driving. Despite with less 2 doors compared to the sedan version, the coupe has practical features in mind with 2 passengers can seat comfortably on the back and there 445 liters of spacious boot space.

Colours available for the BMW 428i Coupé include Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red, Mineral Grey, and Glacier Silver. Meanwhile, Estoril Blue is an exclusive colour addition for the BMW 428i Coupé M Sport. For the BMW 435i Coupé M Sport, colours available are Alpine White, Mineral Grey and Estoril Blue. The new 4 series retailed (excluding insurance) on the pricing as below, with additional RM30,000 for the opitional M Sport package for the 428i trim.
