All-new, locally assembled Mazda CX-5 rolled out in Kulim, Kedah



The locally-assembled, all new Mazda CX-5 has just been rolled off to the awe of those who were present today at the Inokom assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah.

There are three different engines available across five variants – the 2.0-litre (162 hp/210 Nm) GL and GLS, the 2.5-litre GLS (192 hp/257 Nm), and the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel (173 hp/420 Nm) which is available in 2WD or AWD. All the petrol variants come with 2WD only. All five models come with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Manual Shift mode.

Both the GL and GLS comes with 17-inch alloy wheels while the more powerful 2.5-litre and 2.2-litre diesel variants are provided with larger 19-inch rims. All models come with LED headlights, fog lights and daytime running lights except for the 2.0-litre GL variant which uses a bulb fixture for its DRL’s. The same is applied at the back with all models utilising LED except for the GL model. Elsewhere parking sensors and Mazda Advance Keyless Entry are available across the top 4 variants except for the GL variant.

Inside, you get a leather interior except in the base model GL but while the top 4 variants get metal and wood combination dashboard trims, the entry-level 2.0-litre GL comes with a gun metallic appearance. The Sport mode drive selection switch is only available for the petrol variants and while the diesel variants get a 4.6-inch colour TFT multi info display, the petrol variants come with a 4.6-inch TFT LCD standard display.

10-way power adjustable seats for the driver are standard only for the top 4 variants as the base model GL makes do with manual adjustments for both the front seats. The rear seats come with a 40:20:40 one-touch fold down configuration and is treated to rear air vents and dual USB ports.

All five models come with a 7-inch full colour touch screen display with the MZD Connect Infotainment system capable of voice command. Two additional USB slots are available in the front, together with 6 speakers and a reverse camera that comes as standard for all. The 2D and 3D mode for the GPS navigation system is not available only in the base model GL.

All models come with Mazda’s i-Stop Idling Technology and G-Vectoring Control Technology. Safety wise, there are six airbags alongside a host of safety systems which include ABS with EBD, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control System, Auto Hold, Hill-Start, Speed Sensing Lock, Emergency Brake Assist and ISOFIX. The all-new CX-5 has been given a 5-star EURO and Japan NCAP rating.

Supporting the industry standard safety systems are Adaptive Front Lighting System, Adaptive LED headlights, Blind Spot Monitoring System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Smart City Brake Support.

The base model 2.0-litre GL is priced at RM 134,605.50, the GLS at RM 148,605.50, the 2WD 2.5-litre GLS at RM 160,996.70, the 2WD 2.2-litre turbo diesel at RM 164,579.10 while its AWD counterpart is priced at RM 175,179.10. All are on-the-road prices excluding insurance, inclusive of metallic paint finishing.
