Lexus Malaysia has subtly teased that their flagship coupe, the LC, will be landing on our shores this year. The company also went as far as to say that it will arrive here in the second quarter this year!
Positioned as the brand’s halo model (bar the discontinued LFA supercar), the Super GT will feature engineering and design innovations that will steer the Lexus brand onto a whole new level. It’s the first Lexus model to sit on the brand new “Global Architecture – Luxury” platform, gets a 10-speed automatic gearbox, Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) with steel and aluminium mixture, new multi-link suspension design and Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System.
Based on the postings on the website, both the LC 500 and LC 500h may make their grand appearance here. The LC 500 packs a massive 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 that revs all the way up to 7,300 rpm. When mated to the Aisin sourced 10-speed automatic transmission, the V8 produces 471 hp and 540 Nm of torque driving the rear wheels. Century sprit is done and dusted in 4.5 seconds.
For the environmentally conscious, the LC 500h, with its Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System, would be your pick. Marrying a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 to an electric motor, the hybrid system churns out 354 hp. Here comes the interesting part: the transmission is a pair of electronically controlled CVT and a four-speed automatic where the latter is mounted to the electric motor. The LC is set to go up against the likes of the Porsche 911 and Mercedes-AMG GT. Having said that, pricing may very well be in those leagues as well. Nonetheless, we are very much looking forward to the launch of this stunning car!
