First ever Vietnamese-made sedan and SUV to be designed by Pininfarina

Vietnamese carmaker, Vinfast, possibly the country’s first car brand, is set to engage Pininfarina, an Italian car designer, for the development of its new SUV and a sedan – set to be unveiled at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.

The decision was made through a voting contest in which Vietnamese consumers were asked to choose from 20 concept designs including Pininfarina’s. The designs had to be “in line with global trends and suited to the Vietnamese taste”. Two of Pininfarina’s designs were the most voted in a contest comprising of nearly 62,000 participants.“The direct involvement of Pininfarina, one of the world’s biggest design brand, is expected to bring modern beauty while retaining Vietnamese identity in the first two VinFast car models”, said Vice President of Vingroup, Mr. Quang Viet Nguyen.

VinFast is targeting to produce over 500,000 vehicles in the country by 2025 and will launch its first car in September 2019. They are initially expecting to produce between 100,000 to 200,000 VinFast vehicles per year, which will include sedans, SUVs and electric motorcycles.
