Mercedes-Benz C-Class facelift debuts, new look with semi-autonomous tech

The W205 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been around for the better part of five years now and the company has given it a refresher to keep the brand’s most successful model relevant for many more years to come.

The facelift exercise gives the C-Class a refreshed design, new tech and a host of advanced driver assist systems and will be extended to both the sedan and wagon body styles. On the outside, the front bumpers now feature a more angular sculpture furnished with either a silver trim strip as standard, chrome-plated trim strip for the Avantgarde Line or three-part chrome strip for the Exclusive Line. Models with the AMG Line will get the diamond radiator grille as standard.

The headlamps feature a new shape and the Multibeam LED headlamps with 84 individual LEDs are available as an option for the first time. At the rear the dual taillamp graphics have been replaced by a C-shaped design, setting itself apart from its larger siblings.

New equipment on the C-Class include fully digital instrument display (first seen on the S-Class), new steering wheel design with touch-sensitive controls, Energizing Comfort Control, touchpad controller with haptic feedback and 3D real wood veneer on the centre console. New interior colours Magma Grey/Black and Saddle Brown (AMG Line only) are available.

The refreshed C-Class also benefits from the brand’s latest advanced driving assistance systems that allow for semi-autonomous driving in certain conditions. The Active Distance Assist Distronic uses map information and predictively adjusts the speed when approaching a bend or junction for a more intuitive driving experience. Other driving systems include Active Lane Change Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist and Active Steering Assist. These, of course, are an option.

Mercedes-Benz has hinted new powertrain options for the refreshed C-Class but full details will only be revealed at the upcoming 2018 Geneva International Motor Show happening in March.
