Oops: electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class’ exterior leaked ahead of launch

It appears someone was far too impatient to wait for the official unveiling of the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class scheduled for later today. Images of the exterior have already leaked across social media, offering an early look at Mercedes-Benz’s latest effort to electrify its most famous nameplate.

These images reveal the C-Class EV in all its glory and show that it remains faithful to the original teaser Stuttgart shared late last year. Simply put, this is the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC squashed into a sedan body.

This means you get the same front fascia with a familiar arrangement for the headlights and the illuminated front grille. There are also what appear to be massive faux air intakes. At the rear, the car is equipped with a full-width taillight that features a specific design to accommodate the sedan body style.

While it does lean into the controversial “one-bow” design used on the EQE and EQS, the execution on the C-Class looks far more conventional and less like a continuous blob-like design.

As far as leaks go, technical data is still officially under lock and key until tonight when Mercedes-Benz pulls the covers off the car. However, we reckon its powertrain will closely mirror the GLC, where in its 400 4Matic with EQ Technology variant, it features a dual-motor setup that produces 489 hp (360 kW). That is enough to propel the GLC from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.

If it carries over the 94 kWh battery from the GLC, we are looking at a range that should be more than the 713 km (WLTP) managed by its bulkier SUV sibling. It should also support 330 kW DC fast charging, which is capable of adding 300 km of range in 10 minutes. For those charging at home, it will likely support 11 kW AC charging as standard, with a 22 kW option available for those with a suitable wallbox.

Inside, the C-Class EV continues to distance itself from its combustion-powered predecessors. As we previously reported, the cabin is dominated by a newly dubbed “seamless” MBUX Hyperscreen that actually manages to make the flagship EQS look a bit dated.

By ditching the chunky bezels and using matrix backlight technology with nearly 10 million pixels, the display maximises digital real estate across the entire dashboard. This is paired with the MBUX Zero Layer interface, which uses a smartphone-inspired layout to keep you from digging through clunky menus while driving.

Occupants can also look up to find an optional Sky Control panoramic sunroof. Taking a leaf out of the all-new CLA’s book, this glass roof features 162 illuminated Mercedes-Benz stars to remind you exactly which brand you bought into. To keep things comfortable, the cabin includes high-end seats with “Energising seat kinetics” that subtly shift the cushion and backrest to prevent fatigue, along with a multi-source heat pump designed to dehumidify the air just enough so your eyes do not dry out.

The rest of the technical details and official performance figures will be unveiled later today. If you want a deeper dive into the tech-heavy cabin, you can read our previous coverage of the interior of the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class here.
