Mercedes-Benz teases upcoming C-Class EV — and it’s pretty obvious what it’ll look like

We called the new Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology the company’s “knight in shining armour”, in hopes of reviving for its struggling EV lineup. Now then, Mercedes-Benz is teasing its second knight, which will come in the form of an EV sedan silhouette with the new Iconic Grille, hinting at the upcoming C-Class with EQ Technology.

Judging from the lights and grille alone, the front end mostly matches like-for-like with the new electric GLC. It features the same three-pointed star daytime running lights (DRLs) and the new Iconic Grille destined for all future EQ models, but despite what should be a stouter front fascia, the new grille here intriguingly looks even longer than that of its SUV counterpart, with an extra row of LEDs.

While the new Iconic Grille in the electric GLC boasts 942 illuminated pixels, the C-Class could see even more — maybe even up to a thousand.

Paying closer attention, the bottom opening of the grille on the EV C-Class seems larger than the one on the electric GLC — presumably for better aerodynamics or cooling. While Mercedes has only teased the front end, it would be no surprise if the rear also shares many of its design cues with the electric GLC.

As for what will be spinning the wheels, the upcoming electric C-Class will likely share its powertrain with the new electric GLC. For context, the new electric GLC, specifically the GLC 400 4Matic with EQ Technology, is powered by dual electric motors spinning all four wheels, producing a total of 489 hp (360 kW).

In the new electric GLC, the car tops out at 210 km/h and does 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, with a preliminary range of 713 km (WLTP). Supplying power to the system is an NMC ternary battery with 94 kWh of usable capacity.

Mercedes-Benz boasts that the new electric GLC is built on an 800-volt architecture. This allows support for up to 330 kW DC fast charging, which adds 300 km of range in just 10 minutes. If you don’t have access to such a charger, the car also supports 11 kW and optionally 22 kW AC charging for home charging.

Alongside this, the new architecture also brings support for Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G). This allows the car to act as a power bank of sorts, capable of powering everything from small appliances to a whole house.

Inside, the new electric GLC sports a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen stretching across the dashboard, powered by the marque’s MB.OS “superbrain.” Other highlights include a new steering wheel with a volume roller and rocker lever, a Starry Sky Control panoramic glass roof that shifts between transparent and opaque in nine segments, and certified vegan leather upholstery — all of which could also make their way into the upcoming electric C-Class.
