Proton has announced a new Sport Edition for the Proton X70, giving one of the national carmaker’s best-selling models a trendy full-black treatment. Now publicly previewed at selected showrooms, customers can place early bookings ahead of its official price announcement on 16 April 2026.
The new Proton X70 Sport Edition will be rather exclusive, limited to just 600 units nationwide. The most notable addition is its new Quartz Black exterior, a shade that was recently introduced as a new standard colour option on the facelifted Proton X50. This makes the Sport Edition stand out, as the X70 is offered in Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, and Marine Blue, with no black option available as standard.
Complementing the black paintwork are exclusive blacked-out 19-inch wheels, enhancing its sporty and stealthy appeal. Adding a subtle contrast is a distinctive red trim along the side skirting, giving the SUV a slightly more playful edge.
Inside, the sporty-stealthy theme continues with black leather upholstery lined with red stitching — nicely complementing the exterior trim. Proton is also including a boot tray for easier organisation of your luggage. And to top it off, there’s an exclusive Sport Edition logo embroidered on the front seats to remind you that your X70 is no ordinary one.

Proton Edar, Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ir Abdul Rashid Musa, said, “With the introduction of the X70 Sport Edition, we are building on that strong legacy by giving the model a fresh new personality that appeals to customers who want added style and distinction in their SUV. It is a celebration of how far the X70 has taken us, and how it continues to evolve with market expectations.”
Based on the Premium variant of the recently updated MC3 Proton X70, buyers can expect the same level of comfort, including a Nappa leather steering wheel, 72-colour ambient lighting, a six-way adjustable driver’s seat with two-way lumbar support, a four-way adjustable front passenger seat, and security tint.

Proton has not mentioned any performance upgrades, so expect the familiar 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine introduced earlier this year, replacing the previous three-cylinder unit. It produces 181 hp and 290 Nm of torque, with power sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
For now, Proton is still keeping the official price of the Proton X70 Sport Edition under wraps. For reference, the Proton X50 Sport Edition launched early last year at RM105,800, representing a RM3,500 premium over the variant it was based on (excluding the RM7,000 limited-time rebate offered at launch). Whether Proton will mirror a similar pricing strategy remains to be seen, but we won’t have to wait long as the model is set to launch on 16 April.
