MINI Malaysia launches 2 new special edition models, paying tribute to historic racing legacy

MINI Malaysia has announced a pair of new special edition models to pay tribute to the company’s historic racing legacy. Meet the MINI John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition and the MINI 1965 Victory Edition, both celebrating the brand’s historic racing legacy.

First up is the MINI 1965 Victory Edition, a model that pays tribute to MINI’s iconic win at the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally with the classic MINI Cooper S.

Visually, the special edition stands out with its Chili Red exterior, complemented by white trim stripes that flow from the bonnet to the rear. Adding to its heritage-inspired design are the number “52” decals on the sides, along with a “1965” marking on the C-pillar — both referencing the original rally-winning car. It also rides on 18-inch John Cooper Works Mastery Spoke wheels, complete with floating centre caps.

Inside, the celebratory theme continues with JCW Anthracite upholstery accented by red racing trims. Unique “1965” lettering can be found on the steering wheel, while even the key fob and select interior trim elements feature matching ‘65-themed detailing for a cohesive finish.

Based on the all-electric MINI John Cooper Works, it is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 258 hp and 350 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 5.9 seconds. Energy is supplied by a 49.2 kWh battery pack, delivering a WLTP-rated range of between 363 km and 371 km. Charging capabilities include 11 kW AC charging, as well as DC fast charging of up to 95 kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in approximately 30 minutes.

Joining it is the MINI John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition, which draws inspiration from the famed GP variants — typically the most hardcore and track-focused iterations of the MINI Cooper range.

Historically, GP models are introduced towards the end of the model’s generation, showcasing the full potential of the platform, featuring more power and upgraded chassis setups. While very capable, these models are often known for their uncompromising, track-oriented nature.

This GP Inspired Edition, however, is based on the standard JCW three-door model, offering a more accessible take on the GP formula. It is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 231 hp and 380 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels. The result is a 0-100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds.

To tell it apart from the standard JCW, the model is distinguished by GP-inspired decals across the bonnet, sides, and C-pillars, giving it a more aggressive and track-focused aesthetic. Inside, the cabin remains largely similar to the standard JCW, though it gains bespoke floor mats and GP-inspired scuff plates for added exclusivity. The key fob also receives matching GP-themed detailing.

The MINI 1965 Victory Edition is priced at RM230,888, while the MINI John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition comes in at RM333,888. Both prices are on the road, without insurance. Opting for the MINI Service and Repair package raises the prices to RM237,188 and RM345,988, respectively.
